Alternative rock

Every Breath You Take is a Alternative rock act. Their sound grew out of Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin, Béla Bartók, Billy Preston and Robert Fripp. Those roots explain a lot about how Every Breath You Take arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Billie Jean, It's My Life, Losing My Religion and Breakfast in America, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Righteous Brothers, Henry Mancini, Puff Daddy and Faith Evans, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Every Breath You Take, reaching back through Billy Joel and forward to The Righteous Brothers. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
