◇ image via WikipediaXTC
XTC is a Alternative rock act. Their sound grew out of The Veils, Talking Heads, Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, The Cars and Todd Rundgren. Those roots explain a lot about how XTC arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Prefab Sprout, Talking Heads, Squeeze, Elvis Costello & The Attractions and Sparks, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Luca Prodan, Polysics, Halcyon Digest, Sumo and Weyes Blood, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 81 connections around XTC, reaching back through The Veils and forward to Luca Prodan. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
