Exposé is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Stacey Q. Those roots explain a lot about how Exposé arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Paula Abdul, Will to Power, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Vanessa Williams and Stevie B, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Supremes and Kashif, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 20 connections around Exposé, reaching back through Stacey Q and forward to The Supremes. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Exposé is an American freestyle vocal group originally formed in 1984 in Miami, Florida. The group has primarily consisted of lead vocalists Jeanette Jurado, Ann Curless, and Gioia Bruno. The group achieved much of its success between 1984 and 1993, becoming the first group to attain four top 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 from a debut album, including the 1988 number one single "Seasons Change." Exposé’s seven consecutive Top 10 hits on the US Hot 100 landed them behind only The Supremes for most Top 10 hits by an all-female group. In March 2015, Billboard magazine named the group the eighth most successful girl group of all time.
