Illmatic

Boom bap
Boom bap

Illmatic is a Boom bap act. Their sound grew out of AZ, Eko Fresh, MC Serch, Large Professor and Main Source. Those roots explain a lot about how Illmatic arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Melbeatz and D-Flame, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cassandra Steen and Wu-Tang Clan, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Illmatic, reaching back through AZ and forward to Cassandra Steen. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
