Jay Sean

Contemporary R&B

Contemporary R&BHip hop

Jay Sean is a Contemporary R&B and Hip hop act. Their sound grew out of Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, Lil Jon, Stan Walker, Justice Crew and Craig David. Those roots explain a lot about how Jay Sean arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Iyaz, Sean Kingston, Ne-Yo, Taio Cruz and Jordin Sparks, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into SHINee, Coco Lee, Zayn Malik, Joe Jonas and Johnny Ruffo, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 44 connections around Jay Sean, reaching back through Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz and forward to SHINee. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
