John Lodge is a Progressive rock act. Their sound grew out of Buddy Holly, Jon Davison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Thomas. Those roots explain a lot about how John Lodge arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mike Pinder, Peter Banks, The Moody Blues, Focus and Mahogany Rush, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Justin Hayward, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 10 connections around John Lodge, reaching back through Buddy Holly and forward to Justin Hayward.
