◇ image via WikipediaThe Moody Blues
The Moody Blues is a Progressive rock and Psychedelic rock act. Their catalogue also touches Rhythm and blues. Their sound grew out of The Who, Tim Hardin, Roy Wood, Slim Harpo and Patrick Moraz. Those roots explain a lot about how The Moody Blues arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jethro Tull, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Supertramp, Traffic and Genesis, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Deep Purple, Wings, Regina Spektor, Sandra and Procol Harum, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 64 connections around The Moody Blues, reaching back through The Who and forward to Deep Purple.
