Focus

Progressive rock

Focus is a Progressive rock act. Their sound grew out of Traffic, Bob Dylan, Procol Harum, The Moody Blues and Christoph Willibald Gluck. Those roots explain a lot about how Focus arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Camel, Jethro Tull, Wishbone Ash and Steve Hackett, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Rush, Teach-In, Charlie and Midnight Oil, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 28 connections around Focus, reaching back through Traffic and forward to Rush. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
