Johnny Pacheco

Johnny Pacheco is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Cachao, Louie Ramirez, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente and Xavier Cugat. Those roots explain a lot about how Johnny Pacheco arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Fania All Stars, Rubén Blades, Ray Barretto, El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico and Joe Cuba Sextet, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Papa Wemba, Fulanito, Luis Enrique, Bobby Valentin and Ray Barretto, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 29 connections around Johnny Pacheco, reaching back through Cachao and forward to Papa Wemba. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
