Kavinsky is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Gaspard Augé, Kano and Lovefoxxx. Those roots explain a lot about how Kavinsky arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Justice, The Toxic Avenger, Danger, College and Gunship, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Nina, Phoenix, Angèle, Inhaler and Havoc, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 29 connections around Kavinsky, reaching back through Gaspard Augé and forward to Nina. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Vincent Belorgey, known professionally as Kavinsky, is a French musician, producer, DJ, and actor. His production style is reminiscent of the electropop film soundtracks of the 1980s. Kavinsky says that his music is inspired by thousands of movies he watched as a young boy and that he has cherry-picked the best parts from them, consolidating them into one concept. Kavinsky has been compared to many similar French house artists, including Danger and French duo Daft Punk. He achieved greater mainstream recognition after his song "Nightcall" was featured in the 2011 film Drive. His debut studio album, OutRun, was released in 2013.
