Lyle Lovett is a Country act. Their sound grew out of Blaze Foley, Jackson Browne, Al Green, Kinky Friedman and Nanci Griffith. Those roots explain a lot about how Lyle Lovett arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Rodney Crowell, Justin Townes Earle, Lucinda Williams, Alison Krauss & Union Station and Emmylou Harris, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Patricia Kaas, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bloodhound Gang, Indigo Girls and Kathy Mattea, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 36 connections around Lyle Lovett, reaching back through Blaze Foley and forward to Patricia Kaas.
