Priestess is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Elodie, High on Fire, The Stills, Black Sabbath and AC/DC. Those roots explain a lot about how Priestess arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Wolfmother, Eagles of Death Metal, Black Tide, Airbourne and Monster Magnet, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Sword, Dinosaur Jr., GWAR, Nashville Pussy and Black Label Society, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 38 connections around Priestess, reaching back through Elodie and forward to The Sword. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Priestess was a Canadian hard rock/stoner rock band formed by singer/guitarist Mikey Heppner in Montreal, Quebec in 2002, comprising Heppner, singer/guitarist Dan Watchorn, singer/drummer Vince Nudo, and bassist Mike Dyball. Priestess were considered one of the most important bands in the early millennial "retro rock" movement, although they denied intentionally attempting to emulate the sounds of classic rock bands such as Black Sabbath and AC/DC, whom they idolized and to whom they were frequently compared.
