Roy Acuff is a Country act. Their sound grew out of Fred Rose, Jenny Lou Carson and The Louvin Brothers. Those roots explain a lot about how Roy Acuff arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jimmie Rodgers, Bobby Bare, Tex Ritter, The Carter Family and Kitty Wells, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Dolly Parton, Moe Bandy, Charley Crockett, Hank Locklin and Melba Montgomery, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 36 connections around Roy Acuff, reaching back through Fred Rose and forward to Dolly Parton.
