Suga Free is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of DJ Quik. Those roots explain a lot about how Suga Free arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tha Dogg Pound, Mack 10, E-40, Westside Connection and Tha Eastsidaz, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Rappin' 4-Tay, Xzibit, AMG, Tha Eastsidaz and Darkside, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 24 connections around Suga Free, reaching back through DJ Quik and forward to Rappin' 4-Tay.
