Sunday Service Choir is a Gospel act. Their sound grew out of Tony Williams, Ant Clemons, Francis and the Lights and Kanye West. Those roots explain a lot about how Sunday Service Choir arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tye Tribbett, Mary Mary, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Hezekiah Walker and Donnie McClurkin, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Peso Pluma and Will Smith, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 25 connections around Sunday Service Choir, reaching back through Tony Williams and forward to Peso Pluma. Background
The Sunday Service Choir is an American gospel group led by rapper Kanye West and conducted by choir director Jason White. Beginning in January 2019, and initially produced by Jack and Michael Skolnick, the group has performed every Sunday as well as on Friday, September 27, when West's album Jesus Is King was announced for release. Their debut album, Jesus Is Born (2019), was released three months later on Christmas Day. In 2025, the group's official website has been deactivated, and its status is in question.
