The Delmore Brothers is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Boogie. Those roots explain a lot about how The Delmore Brothers arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Cisco Houston, Hank Thompson and Tex Ritter, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Browns, Doc Watson, The Notting Hillbillies, The Everly Brothers and Bob Dylan, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 20 connections around The Delmore Brothers, reaching back through Boogie and forward to The Browns. Background
Alton Delmore and Rabon Delmore, billed as The Delmore Brothers, were country music pioneer singer-songwriters and musicians who were stars of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1930s. The Delmore Brothers, together with other brother duos such as the Louvin Brothers, the Blue Sky Boys, the Monroe Brothers, the McGee Brothers, and The Stanley Brothers, had a profound impact on the history of country music and American popular music. The duo performed extensively with old time fiddler Arthur Smith as the Arthur Smith Trio throughout the 1930s.
