The Real McKenzies is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of The Pogues, Authority Zero, Turbonegro, Jimi Hendrix and Stan Rogers. Those roots explain a lot about how The Real McKenzies arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Flogging Molly, The Dreadnoughts, Flatfoot 56, Street Dogs and Ye Banished Privateers, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Rumjacks, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 20 connections around The Real McKenzies, reaching back through The Pogues and forward to The Rumjacks.
