Flogging Molly is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of Joe Strummer, Social Distortion, Sing Loud, Sing Proud!, Electric Six and Flobots. Those roots explain a lot about how Flogging Molly arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Real McKenzies, The Dreadnoughts, Flatfoot 56, Street Dogs and The Irish Rovers, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Interrupters, Amigo The Devil, Rancid, Fishbone and Street Dogs, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 54 connections around Flogging Molly, reaching back through Joe Strummer and forward to The Interrupters.
