◇ image via WikipediaThe Pogues
The Pogues is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of Ramones, Soft Cell, The Clash, Elvis Costello and Ewan MacColl. Those roots explain a lot about how The Pogues arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Flogging Molly, Christy Moore, The Wolfe Tones, Stiff Little Fingers and Billy Bragg, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Pips, Chips & Videoclips, BiSH, Flogging Molly, The Real McKenzies and Steve Earle, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 53 connections around The Pogues, reaching back through Ramones and forward to Pips, Chips & Videoclips.
