The Tymes is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Wonderful Wonderful and The Drifters. Those roots explain a lot about how The Tymes arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Stylistics, The Drifters, The Four Tops, The Spinners and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Nile Rodgers, Kleeer, Chaka Khan and Spike Edney, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 28 connections around The Tymes, reaching back through Wonderful Wonderful and forward to Nile Rodgers. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
