The Velvelettes is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Berry Gordy, Motown and Norman Whitfield. They run in the same orbit as The Contours, Eddie Holland, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Jr. Walker & The All Stars and The Supremes, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Junior Senior, GBH, Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes and Diana Ross, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 33 connections around The Velvelettes, reaching back through Berry Gordy and forward to Junior Senior.
