Totó La Momposina

Totó La Momposina is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Susana Baca and Paul Kalkbrenner. Those roots explain a lot about how Totó La Momposina arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Joe Arroyo, Choc Quib Town, Bomba Estéreo, Mercedes Sosa and Fruko Y Sus Tesos, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sidestepper, Rich Boy, JAY-Z, Major Lazer and J Balvin, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 25 connections around Totó La Momposina, reaching back through Susana Baca and forward to Sidestepper. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
