Mercedes Sosa is a Folk act. Their sound grew out of Violeta Parra, Simón Díaz, Lila Downs, Gustavo Cerati and Milton Nascimento. Those roots explain a lot about how Mercedes Sosa arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Soledad, Violeta Parra, Sui Generis, Serú Girán and Carlos Gardel, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into La Santa Cecilia, Camilo, Silvana Estrada, Martha Argerich and Andrea Bocelli, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 33 connections around Mercedes Sosa, reaching back through Violeta Parra and forward to La Santa Cecilia.
