The band has undergone multiple line-up changes, with Youman the sole remaining original member – however, he has left the group twice in its three-decade history. They are best known for their singles "Seein' Red" and "Save Me ," both of which peaked in the top 5 in the US Modern Rock charts and the former topping it. The band have also toured extensively both nationally and internationally, most notably as part of the Warped Tour. The band has released seven full-length studio albums to date; their most recent, The Hum, was released in 2022.

Their EP West For Wishing, released in April 2003, was their first professional record and was produced by Brett Gurewitz. In September 2003, they debuted their first full-length album, Stories and Alibis.

In 1998, Allister became one of the first bands to sign to Drive-Thru Records. They went on hiatus in 2007, then reunited in 2010, and have been touring and recording again since. They have released six studio albums: Dead Ends and Girlfriends (1999), Last Stop Suburbia (2002), Before the Blackout (2005), Countdown to Nowhere (2010), Life Behind Machines (2012), and 20 Years and Counting (2019). The band also made a cameo appearance in the 2004 film Sleepover.

The group's most prevalent line-up consisted of David Ryan Strauchman, Joshua Randall Withenshaw, James Francis Deeghan, Matthew Franklin Black and Michael Joseph Govaere. The band is signed to Fearless Records and released their debut album, Shh, Just Go with it in 2008. It was followed up by their second album, Picture Perfect, in 2009, which reached no. 136 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, the band's third and latest album, Bad Habits, was released, peaking at no. 63 on the Billboard 200 – the band's highest chart position. Every Avenue has toured with bands such as Boys Like Girls; Mayday Parade, The Maine, and All Time Low on the latter's The Compromising of Integrity, Morality and Principles in Exchange for Money Tour; and have also been a part of the Vans Warped Tour. As of 2023, Strauchman is the sole member of Every Avenue.
