Relient K

Relient K is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Demon Hunter, The Bangles, Family Force 5, Ludo and The Rocket Summer. Those roots explain a lot about how Relient K arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Hawk Nelson, House of Heroes, Anberlin, NEEDTOBREATHE and Family Force 5, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Simple Plan, Jack's Mannequin, Bleach, Mae and Name Taken, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 45 connections around Relient K, reaching back through Demon Hunter and forward to Simple Plan. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Relient K is an American rock band formed in 1998 in Canton, Ohio, by Matt Thiessen, Matt Hoopes, and Brian Pittman during their third year in high school and time at Malone University in Canton. The band is named after guitarist Hoopes' automobile, a Plymouth Reliant K car, with the spelling intentionally altered to avoid trademark infringement over the Reliant name.
