Legacy of Tim Maia

Racionais MC's is a Brazilian hip hop group based in São Paulo. The original lineup formed in 1988 consisted of Mano Brown, Ice Blue, Edi Rock, and DJ KL Jay. Each member hails from the ring of favelas around São Paulo. Their lyrics combine themes of social justice with gangster imagery, a far cry from the idyllic breeziness typically associated with Brazilian rap music, Racionais MC's is often considered the most important Brazilian rap group. Their name recognizes Tim Maia's monumental double album Racional vols. 1 and 2.

Erasmo Carlos was a Brazilian singer and songwriter, most closely associated with his friend and longtime collaborator Roberto Carlos. Together, they created many chart hits including "É proibido fumar", "Sentado à beira do caminho", "Além do horizonte", "Amigo" and "Festa de arromba".

Paula Toller is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. Toller is most known as the lead singer of Kid Abelha. In 1998, she released her self-titled first solo album, which was very well received. Her second solo album, titled SóNós, was released in 2007.

Os Garotin are a Brazilian band from Rio de Janeiro that performs a fusion of MPB, R&B, and rap. Os Garotin were nominated for a Best New Artist Award at the 2024 Latin Grammys. Their album Os Garotin de São Gonçalo won the 2024 Latin Grammy Award for "Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album".

Deborah Salvatrice Blando is an Italian-Brazilian singer, songwriter, and producer. Having sold more than 6 million records worldwide, she is considered one of the most successful Brazilian pop music artists. Referred to as the "Queen of the soundtracks", she holds the record of having most songs on soundtracks of Globo soap operas. Aside from Portuguese, Blando also sung in English and Italian, and became known in Europe in 1992 with the pop ballad "Innocence", which was followed by a string of successful records in Brazil and Portugal.

Os Mutantes is a Brazilian rock band that were linked with the Tropicália movement of the late 1960s. Heavily influenced by Anglo-American psychedelic pop, they bridged Brazilian sensibilities together with studio trickery, feedback, distortion, and musique concrète. They released their now-acclaimed self-titled debut album in 1968.

Caetano Emanuel Viana Teles Veloso is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, musician and political activist. Veloso first became known for his participation in the Brazilian musical movement Tropicália, which encompassed theatre, poetry and music in the 1960s, at the beginning of the Brazilian military dictatorship that took power in 1964. He has remained a constant creative influence and best-selling performing artist and composer ever since. Veloso has won nineteen Brazilian Music Awards, nine Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards. On 14 November 2012, Veloso was honored as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year.

Lulu Santos, stage name of Luiz Maurício Pragana dos Santos, is a Brazilian singer and guitarist.

Os Cariocas are a Brazilian popular music band. The band was first founded in 1942 by two brothers, Ismael Netto and Severino Filho, and continues to perform today.

Jorge Mário da Silva, more commonly known by his stage name Seu Jorge, is a Brazilian musician, songwriter, and actor.

Luaka Bop is a New York–based record label founded by musician David Byrne, former lead singer and guitarist for the art rock–new wave band Talking Heads. What began with Byrne making cassettes of his favorite Tropicália tracks for his friends became a full-fledged record label in 1988 after Byrne received a solo artist deal from Warner Bros.

Liniker de Barros Ferreira Campos, widely known as Liniker, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and former bandleader for Brazilian soul and Black music band Liniker e os Caramelows. Her voice has been described as 'powerful and low-pitched' with a 'slightly raspy, soul-singer' character as well as 'versatile' with a 'recurrent falsetto' and 'easily recognisable timbre', with occasional comparisons arising towards Tim Maia. Liniker is an openly trans woman, and her music is an influence on young Brazilians facing gender discrimination, an audience which 'rarely finds itself represented in Brazilian music'.
