Black Merda

Black Merda is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Jackie Wilson, Edwin Starr, Gene Chandler, Wilson Pickett and The Spinners. Those roots explain a lot about how Black Merda arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Eddie Hazel, Sly & The Family Stone, Shuggie Otis, Betty Davis and Baby Huey, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Funkadelic, The Bar-Kays, Eric Burdon, War and Ja Rule, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around Black Merda, reaching back through Jackie Wilson and forward to Funkadelic. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
