Rock

War is a Rock act. Their sound grew out of Lafayette Afro Rock Band, Abruptum, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Black Merda and Raydio. Those roots explain a lot about how War arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ohio Players, Average White Band, Rare Earth, The Bar-Kays and Brothers Johnson, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Joey Castillo, Smash Mouth, Les Binks, Get Up, Stand Up and It Wasn't Me, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around War, reaching back through Lafayette Afro Rock Band and forward to Joey Castillo. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
