Bryce Dessner

Bryce Dessner is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Philip Glass, Paul Simon, Sufjan Stevens, Jonny Greenwood and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Those roots explain a lot about how Bryce Dessner arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Max Richter, Nicholas Britell, Arvo Pärt, Eleni Karaindrou and Peter Broderick, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Kronos Quartet, Gustávo Dudamel, Bon Iver and Rone, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 23 connections around Bryce Dessner, reaching back through Philip Glass and forward to Kronos Quartet. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
