◇ image via WikipediaPaul Simon
Paul Simon is a Rock and World music act. Their sound grew out of Clifton Chenier, Buckwheat Zydeco, Ruthie Foster, Bridget St John and Golden Gate Quartet. Those roots explain a lot about how Paul Simon arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Van Morrison, Billy Joel, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Elton John, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Eels, Lifehouse, Scratch My Back, Olivia Dean and Omar Apollo, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 122 connections around Paul Simon, reaching back through Clifton Chenier and forward to Eels.
