◇ image via WikipediaNick Cave
Nick Cave is a Blues and Country act. Their catalogue also touches Garage rock, Rap and Rock. Their sound grew out of Eddie Hazel, L7, Suicide, Karen Dalton and Seasick Steve. Those roots explain a lot about how Nick Cave arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, dEUS, Mick Harvey, Mark Lanegan and Madrugada, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Iceage, Suck It and See, Maxïmo Park, Rachel Goswell and The Dresden Dolls, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 108 connections around Nick Cave, reaching back through Eddie Hazel and forward to Iceage. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
