Calvin Harris is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Gwen Stefani, Theo Hutchcraft, Dua Lipa, Faithless and Groove Armada. Those roots explain a lot about how Calvin Harris arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Alesso, Zedd and Robin Schulz, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Antonio Fresco, Make a Scene, Spencer Brown and The Score, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 94 connections around Calvin Harris, reaching back through Gwen Stefani and forward to Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
