Chairlift is a Synth-pop act. Their sound grew out of Pional, Be Your Own Pet, Mahogany, Swimming and Phoenix. Those roots explain a lot about how Chairlift arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Haim, St. Vincent, Cansei de Ser Sexy, Kimbra and Hatchie, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Phoenix, Indochine, Hatchie, Little Dark Age and Magdalena Bay, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 26 connections around Chairlift, reaching back through Pional and forward to Phoenix.
