Reggae

Chaka Demus & Pliers is a Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Richie Spice, Jack Radics, Curtis Mayfield, Sly & Robbie and Pinchers. They run in the same orbit as Wayne Wonder, Elephant Man, Gyptian, T.O.K. and Serani, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Shaky Shaky, Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Dawn Penn and Alicia Keys, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation.
