Connie Smith is a Country and Folk act. Their catalogue also touches Gospel. Their sound grew out of Jeannie Seely, That's the Way Love Goes, Liz Anderson, Connie Francis and Jean Shepard. Those roots explain a lot about how Connie Smith arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dottie West, Jeannie C. Riley, Jody Miller, Kitty Wells and Tammy Wynette, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Old Crow Medicine Show, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood and Taylor Swift, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 29 connections around Connie Smith, reaching back through Jeannie Seely and forward to Old Crow Medicine Show.
