Gordon Lightfoot is a Country and Folk act. Their catalogue also touches Pop and Rock. Their sound grew out of Bryan Adams, Me and Bobby McGee, The Jordanaires, Vesta Williams and Harry Chapin. Those roots explain a lot about how Gordon Lightfoot arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Harry Chapin, Stan Rogers, Glen Campbell, Seals & Crofts and Crosby, Stills & Nash, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sarah McLachlan, Ry Cooder, Jim Croce, Tony Rice and Connie Smith, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 57 connections around Gordon Lightfoot, reaching back through Bryan Adams and forward to Sarah McLachlan.
