Cranes is a Dream pop act. Their sound grew out of The Cure and Robert Smith. Those roots explain a lot about how Cranes arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Lush, This Mortal Coil, Pale Saints, Chapterhouse and Cocteau Twins, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into A.R. Kane and Slowdive, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 34 connections around Cranes, reaching back through The Cure and forward to A.R. Kane.
