Ride is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of The Rolling Stones, Loop, Dinosaur Jr., The Fall and Pixies. Those roots explain a lot about how Ride arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Chapterhouse, Lush, Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel and Pale Saints, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Union Trade, Smush, Nothing, Chapterhouse and The Away Days, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 89 connections around Ride, reaching back through The Rolling Stones and forward to The Union Trade. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
