Rhythm and blues

Dangerously in Love is a Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of JAY-Z, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Big Boi and Sleepy Brown. Those roots explain a lot about how Dangerously in Love arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Crazy in Love, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and Norah Jones, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 19 connections around Dangerously in Love, reaching back through JAY-Z and forward to Lauryn Hill. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Dangerously in Love is the debut solo studio album by the American singer and songwriter Beyoncé. It was released on June 20, 2003, by Columbia Records and Music World Entertainment. The album features guest appearances by Beyoncé's then-boyfriend Jay-Z, as well as Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Big Boi of Outkast, Sleepy Brown, and Luther Vandross, with international editions including vocals from Vanness Wu and IAM. Musically, the album is a mixture of uptempo tracks and ballads, all of which are primarily R&B songs, while also incorporating elements of soul, hip-hop, and Arabic music.
