◇ image via WikipediaOutKast
OutKast is a Hip hop act. Their sound grew out of Los Rakas, Geto Boys, Paul Oakenfold, Cameo and Kate Bush. Those roots explain a lot about how OutKast arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, JAY-Z, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib and Clipse, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tech N9ne, Matt Martians, Big K.R.I.T., Tropidelic and Busty and the Bass, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 113 connections around OutKast, reaching back through Los Rakas and forward to Tech N9ne.
