Dot Allison is a Trip hop act. Their sound grew out of Slam. Those roots explain a lot about how Dot Allison arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as 8mm, Elysian Fields, Sneaker Pimps, Moloko and Everything But the Girl, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Ruby, Kate Havnevik and Saint Etienne, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 17 connections around Dot Allison, reaching back through Slam and forward to Ruby.
