Recoil is a Electronic and Trip hop act. Their sound grew out of Talk Talk, Depeche Mode, John Cage, Curve and Golden Gate Quartet. Those roots explain a lot about how Recoil arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as UNKLE, Massive Attack, Moby, Art of Noise and Underworld, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Exit Planet Dust, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 18 connections around Recoil, reaching back through Talk Talk and forward to Exit Planet Dust. Background
Recoil is a musical project created by English musician and former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder. Recoil began whilst Wilder was still in Depeche Mode as an outlet for his experimental, less pop-oriented compositions. Once he announced his departure from the group in 1995, Recoil became Wilder's primary musical enterprise.
