Elvin Bishop is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of The Marshall Tucker Band, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Cold Blood, John Lee Hooker and Maria Muldaur. Those roots explain a lot about how Elvin Bishop arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Blue Swede, The Raspberries, Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah, Norman Greenbaum and Jay & The Americans, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Mark Wills, Electric Ladyland, Jefferson Starship, Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation.
