The Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Ronnie Earl, Ruthie Foster, Aretha Franklin, King Curtis and The Beatles. Those roots explain a lot about how The Allman Brothers Band arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Derek and the Dominos, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Dixie Dregs, Agitation Free, Montgomery Gentry, YU Grupa and Derek and the Dominos, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 52 connections around The Allman Brothers Band, reaching back through Ronnie Earl and forward to Dixie Dregs. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969. Brothers Duane and Gregg Allman founded it with Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). Subsequently based in Macon, Georgia, they incorporated elements of blues, jazz and country music and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals.
