Traffic is a Progressive rock and Psychedelic rock act. Their sound grew out of Jimi Hendrix, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Family and Derek and the Dominos. Those roots explain a lot about how Traffic arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Blind Faith, Spirit, Dave Mason, The Moody Blues and Cream, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Yes, Island Records, Dave Mason, Jim Capaldi and Can, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 61 connections around Traffic, reaching back through Jimi Hendrix and forward to Yes. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
