Gloria Jones is a House act. Their sound grew out of Marc Bolan, Billy Preston, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Blossoms and Dr. John. Those roots explain a lot about how Gloria Jones arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Exciters, Shirley Ellis, Al Wilson, Edwin Starr and Barbara Acklin, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into My Ruin, Dusty Springfield, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Commodores and The Four Tops, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 41 connections around Gloria Jones, reaching back through Marc Bolan and forward to My Ruin.
