Howie Day is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Crowded House, The Verve, Tori Amos, Dave Matthews Band and Barenaked Ladies. Those roots explain a lot about how Howie Day arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Five for Fighting, Edwin McCain, Matt Nathanson, Stephen Speaks and Vertical Horizon, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Morgan Wallen and Singing Melody, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 34 connections around Howie Day, reaching back through Crowded House and forward to Morgan Wallen. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
