◇ image via WikipediaJohn Mayer
John Mayer is a Alternative rock and Blues act. Their catalogue also touches Country, Folk and House. Their sound grew out of The John Butler Trio, Memphis Slim, I Look to You, Lizzy McAlpine and John Bettis. Those roots explain a lot about how John Mayer arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson, Dave Matthews Band and Gavin DeGraw, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sandy, Reik, Andy Grammer, Keb' Mo' and Love Yourself, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 120 connections around John Mayer, reaching back through The John Butler Trio and forward to Sandy.
