Ian & Sylvia

Ian & Sylvia is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, The Byrds and The Lovin' Spoonful. Those roots explain a lot about how Ian & Sylvia arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Roger Miller, Fred Neil and Tim Hardin, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into John Bettis, Jim Croce, Lindsey Buckingham, Bobby Bare and Neil Young, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 35 connections around Ian & Sylvia, reaching back through Peter, Paul and Mary and forward to John Bettis.
