Icona Pop is a Electropop and Synth-pop act. Their sound grew out of Nu Shooz, The Knocks, Courting, James Hype and Tove Lo. Those roots explain a lot about how Icona Pop arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Charli XCX, La Roux, Bebe Rexha, Tove Styrke and Kim Petras, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Loreen, Charli XCX, Passion Pit, Matt & Kim and Katy Perry, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 52 connections around Icona Pop, reaching back through Nu Shooz and forward to Loreen.
